Hope House, Inc. is a residential treatment facility that serves women 18 years and older who suffer from the disease of substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Hope House serves three populations of women: homeless single women, pregnant women, and women with children, many who are seeking to regain custody of their children.

Stories

The stories of the Women of Hope House are those of hope, courage, and resilience.  We are honored to have the lives of so many women changed indefinitely because of the shelter and nurturing that they received here.  Many of our women traveled a long road to get to the point where they are productive members of society and are able to give back to the community.  Their stories motivate and inspire other patients and help keep us, the staff at Hope House, focused on the what is possible.

From dependence to independence

Janie knows the exact date she entered Hope House. She should. It marked a turning point in her life.

“I was sick,” Janie says now, “dependent on drugs.”

Fast forward to today and a smiling, confident woman shares a bit of her journey.

Now a graduate of the Hope House program, Janie is gainfully employed and loves what she does. She says she learned that she had been avoiding facing things that had happened in her life because she did not have the tools to deal with them. “Hope House went down deep and brought up all that garbage and I had no choice but to deal with it. I can see that I was partially blind then but now my eyes are open. Hope House showed me that my problems began long before I ever put a drug in my body.”

Janie says she has always had a desire to help others but now she is more focused. Her ultimate goal is to have a half-way house for troubled women. She said some women may stop using drugs but never lose the attitude that so often accompanies being an addict. “I want to help them,” she says. “The program works – if you work the program.” Her new attitude? “Whatever it takes!”
